Our God Delivers
“You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve got to get out of here!”… Is what I said on my date with a girl named Alyssa.
You see, I asked Alyssa out to a fancy restaurant… Chili’s… You can have anything you want… on the 2 for 20 menu… water for her, and i’ll have a Dr. Pepper… But the date was going great, the atmosphere was inviting and warm… When all of a sudden, Megan walks in.
I forgot that I had already made plans for a date with Megan… On the same night, at the same time, at the same Chili’s…
Megan sees me at the table with Alyssa and leaves… Is what I wish would have happened.
Megan sees me, smiles and waves and starts to walk over to me, and about halfway across the room she realizes…
Megan walks over, grabs my Dr. Pepper and throws it in my face, storms away and out the door… Is what I wish would have happened…
Megan sits down next to me… She trapped me in… Turns out, Megan and Alyssa knew each other quite well…
“You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve got to get out of here!”
If you and I are honest, life brings us to this point of struggle all the time… “I need a way out… Work stuff right now is falling apart, this season of marriage is way more difficult than I thought, the terrible twos are tearing me apart, my health is deteriorating before my eyes, I just lost another family member, we do not have the money to pay the mortgage this month…”
Life brings this mess and you and I all collectively say in those moments, “You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve got to get out of here!”
We say that because we want to be rescued from the mess of life. Nobody sits there and thinks, “You know, I’m really looking forward to the next round of suffering thats coming my way!”
A lot of times, the mess looks like a lion’s den and we feel like we are falling slow-motion through the air into the den to be eaten, or maybe we feel that we’ve hit the cave floor hard and bruised a few ribs and that the lions are sure to chomp in. “You’ve got to be kidding me…”
But here is the good news… God delivers.
