Our life is a series of choices. Some large and some small. Some that entail where to eat lunch and some that determine the trajectory of our life. We make these choices in line with who we follow. Either we follow the prevailing wisdom of the culture and choose what society says. Or, we choose to follow Jesus and decide in the way he would have us. The book of Hebrews is written to a group of Christians who are struggling to choose Jesus. They are being persecuted for their faith and some have decided it is better to leave Jesus and not suffer persecution than to stick with him and face the hardship. What the author wants to implore his readers with is the truth that Jesus is better than anywhere these folks could possibly choose instead. Whatever choose they make, Jesus is better. The same goes for our lives. Whatever we choose in the moment-by-moments of life, Jesus is better. And we ought to choose him.
