Some disappointment is minor; I tried to take nap today but the guy next door was working on his chainsaw. Some disappointment is major; I really needed that job to work out. Now I’m not sure how we will make ends meet. Disappointment is a fact of life, but how we deal with it makes all the difference. We can either deal with it well or we can grow angry and bitter. The truth is that God is sovereign over our lives and therefore he is sovereign over our disappointments. And in the midst of those times God is working in particular ways to help us grow. In today’s passage Jonah, our struggling prophet, shows us how not to respond to disappointment. By his negative example we will see the positive path of how we should respond when disappointment comes…because it is coming.
