“Just keep swimming!” This catchy little phrase from Finding Nemo’s Dory was recanted by seemingly every child after the movie’s premier back in 2001, but these words actually hold some good truth for us as parents as well. What are we supposed to do when our kid has been told at least a thousand times not to do something but still does it? Just keep swimming. What do we do when our kid has been screaming for the past two hours without end for no apparent reason? Just keep swimming. What do we do when sickness plagues our kid? Or sadness? Or other kids are bullying our kids? We just keep swimming. That is all nice and well to say, but what does it actually mean to persevere as a parent? Deuteronomy 6 will help us.
